An e-mail received after the August 18,
2006 Concert Finalé
We had the great privilege of being in the audience for
the Band at the Beach concert on the 18th. There are no
words strong enough to express our admiration for the adults
and the students involved and the great concert they were
able to present. Everyone involved should be immensely
proud of his and her efforts.
Our grandson played the tuba in the concert. He told us that he was amazed
at the superiority of the teachers that week over the teachers he has
had in other situations. His verbatim comment was "These are real
teachers!"
Thank you to you for your leadership and for allowing
us to hear the results.

Band at the Beach is a Peninsula-based program whose primary purpose
is advocacy for music in our schools. Additional services provide
instrumental music students with extracurricular instruction during
the academic year and provide an opportunity for a summer music
camp experience. The camp, originally intended for music students
in Pt. Loma, Loma Portal and Ocean Beach has grown beyond the Peninsula
area. Twenty three city and county schools were represented at
the 2007 summer music camp.
During the school year, many camp participants audition for and
are selected to participate in City, County, and All State Honor
Bands and Orchestras. Many of them also participate in City, District
and Regional Solo and Ensemble Festivals and several participate
in the Certificate of Merit program. During the school Year, camp
director, Dell Schroeder, coaches and accompanies young soloists
for Festivals and concerts in return for donations to Band at the
Beach Music Camp.
Music camp, which meets the first week of August each year, features
a variety of small and large group instruction. Several guest directors
are involved and coaches are available for each section of the
band. A nutrition break is provided each afternoon. Observers are
welcome during the week. At week’s end, a concert, free to
the families and public, is presented. This year’s camp will
meet August 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. The Summer Concert is scheduled for
4:00 PM, Friday, August 8. This year’s location will be
Correia Junior High School, 4302 Valeta Street, San Diego, CA 92107.
Band at the Beach is asking friends and frequent donors to continue
their support and invites new donors to join the fun. Available
services and coupons for daily raffles during camp week are also
welcome and appreciated. Your contributions will help with scholarship
costs, faculty payroll, licensirig, copy, postage, website, rent
and custodial, and liability insurance.
We are looking forward to hearing from old and new friends alike.
